Type Locality and Naming

Northeast Liaoning. The Yangshitun Fm was named by the Geological Institute of Liaoning Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources in 1982. The naming section is situated in Houshijiawaizi, Tieling County, Liaoning Province. Uppermost (6 of 6) formation of Shyatun Gr.

Synonym: (杨世屯组)


Lithology and Thickness

The Yangshitun Fm is composed of muddy slate, muddy siltstone, stromatolite-bearing fine-crystalline limestone and fine-crystalline limestone. It is characterized by fine-crystalline limestone rich with stromatolites. It is 1080 m thick.


Lithology Pattern:

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The base is in conformable contact with underlying Songjiagou Fm

Upper contact

Schematic stratigraphic column shows next higher regional unit is the Huiahirun Fm (not in current Lexicon).

Regional extent

Northeast Liaoning. It is distributed in Fanhe drainage area. Laterally it is rather stable in lithological character, but slightly variable in thickness; for example, it is thinned to 733 m around Chenqianhu- Yaoweitaichong, Tieling County, Liaoning Province.

Fossils

The typical stromatolite taxa are: Chihsienella chihsienensis, Tielingella cf. tielingensis, Baicalia cf. baicalia.
